The start of the vine life cycle at Bodegas Arzuaga

This post is also available in: Español (Spanish)

This November, the scenery in the Bodegas Arzuaga vineyards is going to change completely. The leaves that are now shades of ochre and burgundy are going to disappear, leaving the vine naked. After harvest, it’s time for the vine cycle to conclude, but only for a very short time before it starts up again. Over the coming weeks, we’ll see the exact moment at which our vineyards go back to their starting point where the journey begins that leads up to the next harvest. And at Bodegas Arzuaga, we’re always working for the next vintage.

This life cycle is something almost magical, something that wows us year after year. During this period, your strolls through the vineyards will be transformed since you can get an up-close look at the dormant vines, which go into a state of latency that will end when they awaken again with the first ‘bleeding’ in March. Over the coming months, our vineyard will be snoozing, and then the first warm temperatures in spring will wake it up. But there’s a lot of work to be done beforehand, as we have to prune the shoots, do the green pruning, the blunting and all the tasks we do during winter to care for the vines.

That’s why we love for you to come and visit us in autumn – we have so many things to tell you about! The changing scenery is spectacular, one of the most beautiful landscapes offered to us by nature, and we know that you really enjoy coming to our vineyards to get a first-hand experience of these unique sensations. Moreover, on the La Planta estate, you can get an up-close look at one of nature’s most amazing rituals: the bellowing of the deer. Amidst a stunning setting, with the vine cycle starting all over again, the deer start with their particular autumn custom. It’s a real display of nature.

Now you can see that there’s no end of reasons to come and visit Bodegas Arzuaga and enjoy this month of November. We make sure that you get to really experience this magic moment in the sleeping vineyard that will reawaken in spring, as well as all the secrets this season has in store for the vineyard. With our 2021 vintage now resting in the winery, we’ve already started to work on the year to come. Because in the world of Arzuaga, there’s always something new to discover. Come and see for yourself! We look forward to seeing you.
