Tasting Bodegas Arzuaga at Enofusión

This post is also available in: Español (Spanish)

There’s no doubt that Madrid Fusión is one of the most important events on the national scene when it comes to food and wine. Institutions and businesses flock to the IFEMA trade fair venue in Madrid for an annual fixture that’s become unmissable in the industry. And within this event, wineries, and therefore the wine they make, are becoming increasingly important. Proof of this is the international wine fair Enofusión, which takes place in parallel as part of Madrid Fusión and that just celebrated its tenth year.

Enofusión includes an exhibition area as well as spaces such as TopWineSpain, while there are also tasting workshops exclusively dedicated to industry influencers and professionals. In today’s blog post, we’re going to talk about one of these tastings from Enofusión 2020.

On Monday 13 January, the first day of Madrid Fusión, Bodegas Arzuaga held a tasting under the name “Arzuaga, a historical journey from past to future”. On the stage, the people responsible for sharing the history, characteristics and tasting notes for the different wines were: Ignacio Arzuaga, managing director of Bodegas Arzuaga; Adolfo González, winemaker at Bodegas Arzuaga; and Javier Herrero, cellar manager at Arzuaga.

The name of the tasting was already a clue as to what it was all about. As Ignacio Arzuaga explained, the references to the past would be present with the tasting of wines from previous vintages, going on a journey this way through the history and evolution of Bodegas Arzuaga, as well as through some of its most iconic red wines.

In this sense, the wines that Enofusión attendees got to taste were Laderas del Norte 2017, Arzuaga Reserva 2016, Arzuaga Reserva 2010, Arzuaga Reserva Especial 2014, Arzuaga Reserva Especial 2009, Arzuaga Gran Reserva 2010 and Arzuaga Gran Reserva 2004. As you can see, it was an enological journey where, thanks to the guidance from Ignacio Arzuaga, Adolfo González and Javier Herrero, it was possible to appreciate the different sensations found in every glass of the wines, taking into account their vintage and production processes.

It was a great experience where the potential and quality of Bodegas Arzuaga’s wines were confirmed by the dozens of experts who joined us at Enofusión.
