It’s always an honour for Bodegas Arzuaga to have our work recognised by influencers and significant publications, as it means that our wines turn into a point of reference at national and international level. Today, we’re over the moon because the prestigious trade magazine Hand-picked, from International Wine & Spirit Competition, which recognises and awards the world’s best wines, has shone the spotlight on our Pago Florentino 2015 wine, giving it an amazing 95 points. This means having achieved the highest score possible and, while that’s a big enough deal in itself, it’s worth mentioning that only six Spanish wines have managed to get this score, making this recognition even more special.

And it’s no wonder. This is one of the few single-estate pago wines in Spain today, meaning it’s become a highly exclusive wine due to the quality of the terroir where the vines grow that are the source of this wine. Our Pago Florentino 2015 is made using the best Cencibel grapes that grow in the Manchegan vineyards of the La Solana estate, located in an enviable location at the foot of a hill and also exposed to large temperature variations.

The International Wine & Spirit Competition judges characterise it as a wine where “smoky spice, black fruits and olive paste all blend harmoniously with beautiful new oak. The concentrated, complex palate has a sumptuous mouthfeel, beautiful integration and a great pepper and warm-spice element to the very long finish”.

This 100% Tempranillo wine is cold macerated and then, following the malolactic fermentation, it ages for 12 months in French and American oak, turning into a clean, brilliant red wine with a ruby colour with some shades of violet. Our Pago Florentino 2015 is ideal for accompanying punchy appetisers, rice dishes and grilled red meats. And, in particular, it’s the perfect wine for enjoying alongside chocolate desserts.

This amazing score comes in addition to those obtained in the Guía Gourmets 2020, which gave this wine a total of 91 points for being “flavoursome, with the right acidity, broad, juicy in the attack” and with a “long finish”. This same prestigious publication gave our Amaya Arzuaga 2015 wine 97 points for being “lively, elegant and structured”. Our Arzuaga Albillo 2007 was also named Newcomer Wine of the year by the 2020 Peñín Guide.

All of us here at Arzuaga are very proud of having turned our wines and winery into a benchmark within the industry. That’s why we invite you to try our Pago Florentino and discover why it’s one of the best Spanish wines according to International Wine & Spirit Competition. It’s sure to get you talking!
