The 2021 harvest at Bodegas Arzuaga has already come and gone. Following a few very intense weeks, now it’s time to pause and take stock of everything that’s happened this autumn and what will happen in the weeks to come, as the winemaking process progresses. And here on our blog, we can already tell you that this 2021 vintage is going to be very special. No one knows this better than Ignacio Arzuaga, which is why we’ve asked him to share his thoughts on this year’s vintage.
‘We’ve now finished the 2021 harvest and we’re really satisfied. It wasn’t a year where the quantity is going to be particularly noteworthy, although the quality will be. We’ve going to make really modern, fresh, dynamic, happy wines with lots of fruit and that are very pleasant on the palate. It will be a vintage to remember, enjoy and store away,’ he explained. Because we’re counting on the fact that these grapes which we’ve just finished picking will turn into wines with all the personality of Arzuaga.
That’s why we’d like to invite you to visit the winery this autumn. You’ll be able to see the evolution of this 2021 vintage first-hand, stroll through the vineyards – now without any grapes – and enjoy a few very special days on the La Planta estate. Meanwhile, the wine is already taking shape in our winery.
‘Given its characteristics, this 2021 vintage is going to age very well; over the years it’s going to become more serious, more mature, more interesting. I think that the wines from 2021 will be for laying down and enjoying,’ explained Arzuaga. And for us that’s great news,
because to get to this point, we had to do a lot of work all year long. Our professionals follow the development of the vines very carefully to monitor the production. Over the past few months, we’ve talked about green pruning, winter pruning and cluster thinning. We’ve also talked about weather conditions and the special characteristics of our wines. This has all led up to this very special moment, when the wine is now resting in our winery.
So now all that’s left to do is for us to invite you to try our 2021 wines when they leave Arzuaga and go out into the world. Ignacio Arzuaga captures this perfectly when he lifts his glass and says, ‘I’d like to toast with you all to this 2021 vintage’.
