This post is also available in: Español (Spanish)

All of you who know Bodegas Arzuaga know that we love to share the world of wine with you. Discovering all the processes that end with uncorking the bottle at home, in a restaurant or at our winery. At Arzuaga, we take special care over every vine so that our Ribera del Duero wines will be unique, with their own personalities and lots of warmth. That’s why today, we invite you to come on a very special journey: from the pruning to the harvest.

Pruning: a fundamental step in the Bodegas Arzuaga vineyards

Today on our blog, we wanted to talk to you about one of the most important growing practices for the vines, which we’ve been doing during this period at Bodegas Arzuaga. There’s no question that every operation we carry out in the vineyard must be performed carefully and precisely since they will all have an influence on the proper development of the plant. However, pruning is one of the most fundamental, as it’s largely responsible both for the quantity of grapes that will be harvested as well as their quality.

Veraison takes over the vineyards at Arzuaga

With September comes a very special moment in Arzuaga’s vineyards: veraison, that almost magical process that starts in summer and ends with the harvest. The bunches of grapes go from being small, with the berries the size of a pea, to growing and ripening. They leave behind the emerald green colour that shines during June and July to become darker and take on the typical hue of Tempranillo. Our vineyards located in Ribera del Duero have been transformed completely over recent weeks. And here on our blog, we wanted to invite you to come and discover veraison up close, to visit our vines and be able to feel the fact that the grapes are nearly ready to be picked.
