Recently on our blog, we talked about Tim Atkin’s visit to Bodegas Arzuaga, in a post you can read here. As we told you, this British Master of Wine came to our winery as part of a series of events and tastings organised by the Ribera del Duero Supervisory Council. After these tastings, Atkin awarded different scores to the wines he tasted and, based on these, he created a top 100 of the Ribera del Duero wines that scored above 94 points.
The truth is, at Bodegas Arzuaga, we couldn’t be happier with the result of these scores, as five of our wines have been included in Atkin’s Ribera del Duero top 100. While this in itself is already commendable, it becomes even more noteworthy considering the fact that because this has only been achieved by two wineries from our designation of origin in this year’s ranking.
So, which five of our red wines have scored high enough to rank them among Atkin’s best wines? There’s our Arzuaga Reserva 2018, which scored 94 points, while Amaya Arzuaga 2016 and Gran Reserva 2015 both scored 95. Meanwhile, our 2016 Arzuaga Reserva Especial got 96 points in Atkin’s ranking, and it was our Arzuaga Gran Reserva 2015 that received the highest score from the Master of Wine, with 97 points.
It’s also worth mentioning that three other Arzuaga wines got great scores of 90 or 91 points. These were our La Planta 2020 and Arzuaga Rosae 2020, which both scored 90, as well as our Arzuaga Crianza 2019, which got 91.
For Bodegas Arzuaga, it’s a real source of pride that one of the most famous opinion leaders at international level rates our wines so highly. It’s undoubtedly a pat on the back for all the work we do every day in our winery and confirmation that we’re headed in the right direction: caring for and respecting the vineyard and looking for the highest quality in every process in the winery. Now, all that’s left for us to do is invite you to visit our online shop so you can try this quality that we work so hard to achieve for yourself… Cheers!
