The Tempranillo grape, one of the stars of the Arzuaga harvest

This post is also available in: Español (Spanish)

If you’re a regular reader, you already know Bodegas Arzuaga grows different grape varieties: Syrah, Cabernet, Chardonnay or Merlot among others. But the Tempranillo grape is clearly the main player of the harvest. Tempranillo is a grape that reflects the full character of the Ribera del Duero, a privileged setting in the world of wine and the place where our winery belongs. And not just anywhere, Bodegas Arzuaga stands in ‘golden mile’ of the Ribera del Duero, a unique place.

And here, we take care of our vineyards in order to obtain the best production. The clusters of Tempranillo grapes are large and compact, with pronounced wings. They are round, medium to large in size, with a thick skin and a beautiful bluish-black colour.

Although each Ribera del Duero wine has its own character, the Tempranillo variety gives us wines with a medium-low acidity, discreet tannins and good fruity tones. Its must is used to make elegant wines, from the fruitiest to those with the typical woody notes of the Ribera del Duero. The winemaker determines the wine’s path, but the raw material allows us to create unique products.

That’s why every year we take such great care to harvest the Tempranillo grapes under the best possible conditions. For Bodegas Arzuaga, harvest is the most important season which is why the grapes are picked in boxes of no more than 15 kilos, so that they arrive at the winery in top conditions. This allows us to obtain the best possible must. This grape is then used to make different wines, depending on the estate where it is produced. At Bodegas Arzuaga we strive every day to ensure each of our bottles has its own character, always with that special soul we vest to all our wines.

However, if you would like to learn more about the Tempranillo grape or the other varieties that also grow in our vineyards, just come and visit our winery. You will be able to discover its secrets, and also uncork one of our bottles of this variety to enjoy its full character. Come now to Bodegas Arzuaga and share our passion for Tempranillo.
