Ten Arzuaga wines between 90 and 99 points in the 2021 Guía Peñín

Wine lovers know how important Guía Peñín is in the wine industry. It has, in its own right, become the world’s most comprehensive Spanish wine guide, with over 11,500 wines tasted. Today, we’d like to talk to you about the scores Bodegas Arzuaga has achieved in the latest edition of this guide. Ten of our wines have achieved between 90 and 99 points, great scores that fill us with pride. It’s also worth mentioning that the average for DO Ribera del Duero wines is 90 points, the baseline score for all of our wines.

Let’s start with La Planta 2019. This wine, one of our winery’s most popular, has scored 90 points in the 2021 Guía Peñín. According to Ignacio Arzuaga, the managing director of Bodegas Arzuaga, and Javier Bañales, sales manager and brand ambassador, it’s a red that’s ‘a rush of fruit’ and ‘an ideal accompaniment to a nice aperitif at home with some Iberian cold cuts’.

Arzuaga Crianza 2018 was another of our wines that scored 90 points in this edition of the guide. 2018 was an outstanding vintage, as Arzuaga and Bañales note, so much so that Bañales doesn’t hesitate to say that ‘2018 is the definition of fine wine’.

The third red wine that achieved 90 points is our Pago Florentino 2017. Black fruits form a wine that was favoured by an early harvest due to the heat.

Arzuaga Rosae 2019, on the other hand, earned 91 points. A very special wine, this rosé has a very subtle colour and is made exclusively from Tempranillo grapes. Red and wild fruits and a tropical touch define this distinctly gastronomic wine.

The Guía Peñín jury gave 92 points to our Arzuaga Laderas del Norte 2018 red wine. This wine represents the vanguard of Bodegas Arzuaga’s production, marking where the style is headed in the future.

Arzuaga Reserva 2016, one of our winery’s most representative wines, was awarded 93 points. It’s a red that, as Ignacio Arzuaga and Javier Bañales point out, is a faithful example of the wine that made Ribera del Duero famous thanks to its combination of power and elegance.

Our Reserva Especial 2015 also scored 93 points in the 2021 guide. Arzuaga defines this red as ‘the winery’s most international wine’; one that blends tradition and innovation.

Like the last two, the Amaya Arzuaga Colección red wine also got 93 points this year. One of our winery’s ‘most unique’ wines, as Arzuaga notes, but one that represents a ‘100% Arzuaga’ spirit.

Meanwhile, one of our winery’s flagship wines, Arzuaga Gran Reserva, achieved 94 points for the 2010 vintage. This is a wine we only make with the best vintages.

And now, we wanted to save the best for last. After the 2007 vintage was chosen as the guide’s Surprise Wine for 2020, our Arzuaga Albillo 2008 has become one of the Guía Peñín’s six ‘giants’ in achieving 99 points, the first white wine from Ribera del Duero to reach this score.

The amazing scores in the 2021 Guía Peñín give us even more encouragement to keep working with the sole aim of satisfying our customers’ demands.
