Did you know that we make a 100% Tempranillo rosé at Arzuaga?

This post is also available in: Español (Spanish)

Bodegas Arzuaga’s Rosae is one of the few rosé wines made exclusively using Tempranillo grapes. It’s one of the latest projects to come up at Arzuaga, with the aim of being able to reflect this variety in another, different state. The first vintage was in 2013, and now we’ve released the 2019 vintage. This is a rosé that’s come to revolutionise the characteristics of traditional Tempranillo rosés, Ribera del Duero rosés and Spanish rosés in general.

In the opinion of Javier Bañales, Bodegas Arzuaga’s sales manager and brand ambassador, the word the best reflects the essence of Rosae is ‘subtlety’. It’s a varietal wine made from Tempranillo grapes sourced from our La Planta estate during the first days of harvest. Instead of fermenting for the 7-10 days usually established for a normal alcoholic fermentation, this wine ferments for 20 days at 12-13°C.

It stands out for its aromatic intensity, very light salmon colour with candy-floss-coloured glints and a very high aromatic intensity. This aromatic intensity is really noticeable right after you pour the wine. Many more aromas appear if you swirl the glass, including red fruits (especially strawberry and raspberry), tart fruits, tropical fruits such as passion fruit… Rosae is very light in colour, a gourmet, elegant wine, from the Ribera del Duero Designation of origin.

The grapes used to make this wine are the first ones that reach our winery each year. At Bodegas Arzuaga, we look for those without a very high sugar content, since we aim for an alcohol content around 12.5% or 13% at most. This rosé is the only wine at Bodegas Arzuaga that doesn’t spend any time in oak.

There’s no question that rosé is in fashion, and although at Bodegas Arzuaga we’ve been making our Rosae for years, we invite you to join in this trend and enjoy a nice, fresh rosé. You can drink it on its own or, if you prefer, pair it with dishes like cream of vegetable soups, seafood and meat rice dishes, seafood, fried fish and fish in sauces, charcuterie, white meats, roasted poultry or even sushi or sashimi. In short… you can’t really go wrong!
