Bodegas Arzuaga and Bodegas Muga launch the ‘You’re not alone’ initiative to support the work of Caritas Spain

This post is also available in: Español (Spanish)

Ever since this health crisis began, at Grupo Arzuaga we’ve worked to try to do our bit and help in whatever way we can. Today on our blog, we’d like to talk to you about the ‘No estáis solos’ (‘You’re not alone’) initiative, where we’ve joined forces with Bodegas Muga to support the work of Caritas Spain. Now, we’d like to ask for your help, too. But that’s not all: we’ve also got a little surprise for you as our way of saying thanks.

We know that older people are the segment of society most vulnerable to COVID-19, so we here at Arzuaga, together with Muga, wanted to support the assistance that Caritas provides every day in our country and to promote the ‘No estáis solos’ campaign. Through donations, this initiative aims to contribute financial support so the organisation can continue to do its work in as many homes as possible, which in turn means as many people as possible receiving assistance and care.

During this coronavirus crisis, Caritas is assisting and caring for these vulnerable people, as well as identifying basic needs and requirements in terms of health and protective materials.

Your donations will support Caritas in its valuable work and, as we mentioned, we’d like to show our appreciation for your support in a very special way. Given the wine tourism potential of both wineries and with the hope that, once this situation is over, we can all get back to travelling, touring and exploring what our country has to offer, when you make a donation on the website for the initiative, you’ll be offered the choice of a wine tourism visit at either Bodegas Arzuaga or Bodegas Muga as our way of saying thanks. This way, anyone who would like to will be able to support this good cause, to help some of the most vulnerable people in society and, in addition, to get to know the world of wine in Spain’s two most important designations of origin: Rioja and Ribera del Duero.

It goes without saying that both wineries are benchmarks in wine tourism in our country. Bodegas Arzuaga, in the heart of Ribera del Duero’s ‘golden mile’, is one of the most comprehensive wine tourism complexes in Spain. What we offer goes beyond discovering the world of wine and its production. There’s also our culinary offering, comprising the Michelin-starred restaurant Taller and our traditional restaurant; our 5-star hotel and spa surrounded by vineyards; the wild boar, mouflon and deer reserve and plant life of the La Planta estate; oil and wine tastings; themed parties and lots more different activities such as inflatable boat or in horse-carriage rides.

Bodegas Muga, on the other hand, is a family company founded in 1932 in Haro, the wine capital of the Rioja region. Characterised by always using the finest materials, Muga combines tradition and the state of the art to give its wines the highest quality without giving up authenticity. In fact, it’s the only winery in Spain that has a master cooper and three in-house barrel makers, who make all the winery’s containers and barrels. They remain loyal to traditional methods such as racking using gravity.

Its wine tourism offering includes a wide range of options, starting with its Torre Muga Space that provides a 360° wine tourism experience for discovering wine culture. The experiences on offer include vineyard tours, hot air balloon rides, beginners’ tasting courses and winery tours.

Open project for wine tourism

The ‘No estáis solos’ initiative is a project from Bodegas Arzuaga and Bodegas Muga born out of the aim of joining forces and achieving the greatest financial contribution to support Caritas in its work with older people. It is thus an open initiative that any winery, wine route or regulatory council can join if they wish.

Tourism is a very important industry for the Spanish economy that is being especially punished by the current situation. For that reason, it’s important to get this industry up and running again as soon as this is permitted by the health authorities. So, any wineries or routes with wine tourism projects can join in this good cause and go back to promoting wine-focused travel. The destinations will be chosen by people donating at the time of making their donations, so the more varied the wine tourism offer, the more it will help the collection for Caritas to grow.

What is offered for each individual donation?

Tours at both Muga and Arzuaga will be valued at around €23.

Bodegas Arzuaga

Winery tour with a guided tasting of the Arzuaga Crianza, Arzuaga Reserva and Arzuaga Reserva Especial wines paired with gourmet tapas from the Michelin-starred Taller restaurant.

Bodegas Muga

Winery tour with a tasting of two wines in the Wine Bar: a glass of Muga Reserva Selección Especial 2015 and Prado Enea Gran Reserva 2011.

How can I make a donation?

Donations can be made via the website www.noestaisolos.com, where you’ll find a direct link to the Caritas Spain site. Once you’ve made your donation (at least €15), you’ll get a receipt from Caritas. Then, send an email to donaciones@noestaisolos.com, attaching this receipt and stating your personal details (full name, mobile number and email address) and your choice of winery to visit. After sending the email, the winery will be in touch with you to arrange your visit.
