We’re always bowled over to see that opinion leaders, competitions of reference and renowned guides at both national and international level consistently award outstanding scores to our Arzuaga wines. This has been the case recently with the Guía Gourmets, the latest edition of which we want to cover in this post today. One of the most prestigious wine guides in Spain, the 2020 edition will be its 35th. To create it, the guide jury – comprised by 25 industry professionals – did blind tastings of a total of 4,360 Spanish wines, less than half of which scored higher than 80 out of 100 points to earn a place in the guide.
In the case of our Bodegas Arzuaga wines, there are seven that scored 90 points or higher, an amazing achievement we’re over the moon about. Today, we’re sharing the scores given by the Guía Gourmets with you, as well as some of the comments of note about our wines:
- Rosae Arzuaga 2018. 90 points. In their evaluation of our Rosae rosé wine, the Guía Gourmets jury pointed out that it’s a wine that’s ‘fresh in its attack, with a sinewy, juicy mouthfeel. The flavourful finish encourages you to take another sip’.
- Arzuaga Crianza 2017. 94 points. ‘Flavoursome, structured, enveloping, juicy on the palate… Long, persistent finish’, they remark about our Crianza.
- Arzuaga Reserva Especial 2014. 95 points. When classifying our Reserva Especial, they stressed that it is a ‘complex, flavoursome, deep, broad, balanced and well-rounded’ wine, with a ‘persistent finish’.
- Amaya Arzuaga 97 points. Amaya Arzuaga 2015 is the Bodegas Arzuaga wine that achieved the highest score in the 35th edition of the Guía Gourmets. The jury said that this red wine is ‘lively, elegant, structured, full of muscle, balanced overall and with a long-lasting finish with a complex aftertaste. Its optimal acidity stands out’.
- Arzuaga Reserva 96 points. Arzuaga Reserva 2015 also received a wonderful score, thanks largely to its ‘powerful, flavoursome’ mouthfeel ‘with muscle, broad, pleasant tannin, inviting, juicy and balanced across the palate, persistent finish where the sensations on the nose reappear’.
- La Planta 2018. 91 points. Our young red wine La Planta – undoubtedly the fashionable wine – stands out in the Guía Gourmets for its ‘notable intensity’ and for a palate revealing a wine that’s ‘flavoursome, fresh, juicy, enveloping with a spicy, floral, milky mouthfeel’ and a ‘long finish’.
- Pago Florentino 91 points. The final wine from our winery that was evaluated in the Guía Gourmets is our Pago Florentino, a gem of Arzuaga. A ‘flavourful’ wine, ‘with spot-on acidity, a broad, juicy attack’ and a ‘long finish’.
We couldn’t be prouder of these scores and they represent an impetus to continue working every day with the same ambition and determination that characterise us.
