At Bodegas Arzuaga, we work to improve every day, to make sure that our wines are special and convey their own personality. So, we’re especially excited that our Arzuaga Crianza 2018 received a Platinum medal at the 2021 Decanter World Wine Awards. And that’s not just any accolade. These awards, now in their eighteenth year, are associated with one of the world’s most important and prestigious competitions. Only the best wines come away with an award from the demanding jury that comprises the best tasters currently on the international scene. That’s why we’re so proud, because we know that this award is a nod to the balance and elegance of our Arzuaga Crianza 2018.
This wine already had its own personality even before it existed. Made from the Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot varieties, the vines are found in the oldest part of our La Planta estate. The grapes grow at 911 metres above sea level in chalky and clayey soil, with the limestone bedrock one metre from the surface. It’s a unique place that’s the source of a unique wine.
Clean and bright, with a Picota cherry hue with shades of violet, Arzuaga Crianza 2018 has a powerful nose, where ripe red fruits predominate. You’ll also notice touches of spice and balsamic notes, although you’ll feel its character on the palate, where it shows off its great body. The mouthfeel provides long-lasting smooth and honeyed sensations. The palate is reminiscent of the wine’s complexity on the nose. Its elegance and great personality will win you over with every sip.
This very special character is what earned it a Platinum medal at the 2021 Decanter World Wine Awards. But that’s not all. It scored 97 points, making it the highest-scoring wine from the Ribera del Duero Designation of Origin in this competition.
