Rosae, the rosé wine from Bodegas Arzuaga

If we think about Bodegas Arzuaga wines, and even if we stop to think about Ribera del Duero wines, the first thing that surely comes to mind are deep cherry shades; in other words, colours characteristic of red wines. However, we are lucky that the geographical area we are located allows for innovation, evolution and, ultimately, the ability to produce different wine varieties. Proof of this is our Albillo Arzuaga, a white wine whose first vintage was chosen as the Newcomer Wine by the 2020 Peñín Guide.

In this context, today we want to talk to you about a wine we’ve been making since 2013 vintage that surprises anyone who tries it for the first time: our Rosae Arzuaga rosé. It’s a single-variety wine made from Tempranillo grapes sourced from our La Planta estate during the first days of harvest. Once the grapes are harvested – always by hand to ensure only the best bunches are chosen – we continue production at the winery with the same level of care. In that sense, the grapes are pressed carefully to only extract the desired colour, which we’ll talk about a bit more below. This all takes place at a temperature no higher than 12°C, the same temperature that will be maintained during fermentation, after which the wine will undergo natural cold decanting and be bottled to preserve its freshness and liveliness.

In terms of the tasting note, starting with the appearance, when it’s served in the glass, you first see a pale pink wine with some iridescent tones. Although you won’t find any shades that recall red fruits during this phase, these notes do appear on the nose, with fruity touches and a high aromatic intensity. Lastly, when you finally take a sip and taste the wine, Rosae Arzuaga provides a flavoursome, fresh and pleasant sensation, inviting you to take another one.

There’s no question that rosé is in fashion, and although at Bodegas Arzuaga we’ve been making our Rosae for years, we invite you to join in this trend and enjoy a nice, fresh rosé. You can drink it on its own or, if you prefer, pair it with dishes like cream of vegetable soups, seafood and meat rice dishes, seafood, fried fish and fish in sauces, charcuterie, white meats, roasted poultry or even sushi or sashimi. In short… you can’t really go wrong!
