Another year we reach a superlative time in our winery. Finally, there is a process in which we reap the fruit of a year’s work, of every care and cultural practice applied to our vineyards. S would be expected, we are talking about the grape harvest, which this year has started on 22nd September at Bodegas Arzuaga.
If there is something that stands out in this year’s campaign is that ripening of the grape is very good in this 2019 – as Ignacio Arzuaga, Managing Director of Bodegas Arzuaga, points out. This year the ripening “is coming in a very complete way and this provides us that the acidity is maintained, the sugar is improved and this balance is produced, which is what ultimately delivers great wines, when we find a balanced acidity and sugar”.
In this sense, it should also be noted that the degree of sugar in wines will allow the production of fresh, less alcoholic wines in the line marked by the current trend of recent years.
Moreover, regarding to colour, Ignacio Arzuaga emphasises that “due to the small size of the grape, the wines will have a very high colour, a full robe of colour.” So much so that the strength of the colour has already been noticed in the first fermentations of this 2019 vintage”. “We are going to produce wines of great colour, so as that in the first fermented wines, without hardly having handled them, the colour is already impressive”.
Sensory features the wines will provide is another aspect that is starting to be seen now in the grape picked in the harvest. “This year, thanks to the low alcohol content that the wines are going to present, we’ll have a fresh, fruity and floral vintage that is not as powerful or as ripe as other years”, says Ignacio Arzuaga, who also defines it like “a very amusing vintage on the nose”.
And if it is important taking into account the sensations that we’ll discover with these wines, it is not less important to mind their possibilities of ageing, a feature that, in the case of providing longevity, marks the quality of the wines. Once again, the perspectives are positive, because we will face a vintage with the ability to age in the bottle.
In short, we can assure, and Ignacio Arzuaga does so that “the vintage of 2019 is going to be one recalled by quality”.
