Bellowing, an impressive natural spectacle at Bodegas Arzuaga

We can ensure unashamedly that we are facing one of the shows of the autumn season. Before a unique sequence that only some inhabitants of the mountain areas had the fortune to know. For others, urbanites and society in general, information came only through documentaries. We are talking about the imposing bellowing.  A natural spectacle like no other.

The bellowing is a phenomenon starring male deer, which can be contemplated and enjoyed by all those who have a concern to feel the roars of deer at sunrise and sunset and the impressive noise and clicking of their antlers.

And it is precisely during the bellowing when the males mark their territory and break the darkness of the sunset or dawn with their bellows, with which they look for the females to mate. If mating season is one of the most interesting and striking of many animals, in the case of deer this becomes an awesome period that we have the opportunity to enjoy in Arzuaga.  And if the bellows we hear during the bellowing are already stunning, the power struggles that take place during this time are no less breathtaking. After bellowing, some males of the herd fight, hitting their antlers, facing each other to see which of the two has won in this bellowing, prior to mating with the females.

Bodegas Arzuaga we are fortunate to live together throughout the year in our La Planta estate, with more than 300 specimens of deer that live, graze and grow under the oaks of our estate. Listening to visitors who come to know the estate, we see that they agree with us when they ensure that it is always striking to be surrounded by deer, penetrate in their natural habitat and have the chance to get to know these fantastic animals up close. A picture that only improves when autumn arrives and its bellows break the sunrise. A testimony that we share with friends who come to meet us, with visitors who eat in our restaurant, stay at our hotel and enjoy a good wine, but also they relish an animal show without comparison in the Ribera del Duero, finding in the bellowing another element to make their visit an unforgettable experience.
