Arzuaga, the best score in the CIVAS Awards of AkataVino

Recently we have received a new accolade that recognises our work, our dedication and, above all, the quality of Arzuaga wines. Our red Arzuaga Gran Reserva 2011 has obtained the highest score awarded to the 5,000 wines valued in the CIVAS Awards, organised by AkataVino.  For Bodegas Arzuaga the 97-point rating is a great pride, only obtained by two other wines from all over Spain.

It should be noted that this score, which corresponds to the great gold medal, makes Bodegas Arzuaga a candidate for the 2019 AkataVino Awards. Only the wines that have obtained better scores can enter this second phase, in which they also consider other characteristics that make a wine special and noteworthy, such as its label, the packaging in which it is presented or the aspects related to its price and purchase. These second awards will be announced for next September and will establish a ranking of 10 wines or wineries in each of the awarded categories.

Also, it is important to note that the jury of these CIVAS Awards has been composed entirely of sommeliers, that is, experts who appreciate the characteristics and nuances of each of the wines valued. These tastings have been carried out in a “double blind” format, which implies that the jury members didn’t know, evidently, neither the wines that were to be served nor the order of them. Both matters only reinforce and give a greater value to the score obtained by the Arzuaga Gran Reserva 2011, based solely on the properties and quality of this red Ribera del Duero D.O.

About Arzuaga Gran Reserva 2011

Our Arzuaga Gran Reserva is a red wine that we make in Bodegas Arzuaga with a 95% Tempranillo grape coming from centenary vines located in very diverse lands of the Ribera del Duero, and with a 5% of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, collected in our La Planta estate at 900 metres high.  A blend of different varieties and areas brings complexity and harmony when making wine.

When serving it, we found a bright, clean red colour. In the nose phase is a wine very rich in nuances, although within its aromas the ripe and compote fruit stands out, along with sparks of roasted and leathers. All these assembled with spicy aromas such as cinnamon, which makes it a fine, subtle, complex and striking wine.

Finally, when tasting, you will discover a balanced, silky and pleasant red wine.

Enjoy this wine!
