Video tastings from Bodegas Arzuaga: Arzuaga Reserva 2016

This post is also available in: Español (Spanish)

At Arzuaga, we believe in the infinite possibilities that vine growing gives us, and we wanted to take advantage of them by premiering a new way to discover the qualities of each of our wines. We’re also aware that we’re all spending these difficult days at home and, taking this into account, we thought we could do our part to make this time a bit more pleasant.

That’s why we’re sharing a series of online video tastings on our social media, to help you learn more about the characteristics of different Bodegas Arzuaga wines. So, whenever you try one of our wines, you’ll know how to appreciate every detail, including the more subtle ones that you might not have noticed before.

Today on our blog, we’re going to tell you about the first of these video tastings, which we recorded weeks before the lockdown began. In it, Ignazio Arzuaga, the managing director of Bodegas Arzuaga, shares our Arzuaga Reserva 2016 with our followers. As he mentions, ‘this wine is the best reflection of Ribera del Duero, due to its contrasts, its elegance and, above all, its terroir and the mineral notes it has, which take us directly to Ribera’.

Arzuaga Reserva is a red wine that wine and food lovers just have to try. Its versatility makes it the perfect partner for a wide range of dishes, ‘from meats, since it’s a fairly powerful wine, to pasta with porcini mushrooms and with other strong mushroom flavours. And, of course, our local suckling lamb. But it also goes further with red meats, with stews or the traditional local dish of stewed pigeon,’ says Arzuaga.

Among its more formal characteristics, ‘we find ripe red fruits as well as some black fruits such as Picota cherry or blueberry, with a slight hint of smoke and spice in the background,’ he notes. In addition, it’s a wine that, as Arzuaga remarks, ‘is generous, broad and deep on the palate, with an acidity that makes it supple and helps us to enjoy whatever food we’re eating it with’.

This is the result of the blend of three varieties of grapes from vineyards over 45 years old: Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Albillo and Cabernet Sauvignon, which have also spent 26 months ageing in French oak barrels, making it a ‘very elegant wine, where the tannins are smooth and embrace you,’ he asserts.
