Welcome to the harvest, a crucial moment at Bodegas Arzuaga. The winery begins to buzz with activity at the end of August, when the grapes begin to appear in our vineyards, close to their perfect ripening point. September always brings a change of season and the harvest.
These days are the culmination of months of hard work and dedication in the vineyards, culminating in the harvest and the start of a new cycle that will end with the ripening of our Tempranillo grapes. As you know, Arzuaga is deeply aware of the importance of respecting nature and doing the right thing in our vineyards. That’s why, day after day, we dedicate ourselves to the vines, adapting to the changing seasons, the cold, the heat, the rain and the frost, so that our vines complete their cycle and the grapes reach their perfect state of ripeness this month.
At Arzuaga we take the harvest very seriously, as we believe that it is part of the soul of our wines. For this reason, the majority of the harvest is carried out by hand, which allows us to carefully select each bunch at its optimum ripening point. This is essential to preserve the quality and distinctive flavours of the grapes, ensuring that any damaged or unripe fruit is excluded from the winemaking process. Harvesters go through the vineyards in rows, cutting the grapes and placing them in small boxes. It is very important that they are not crushed, as we want to make the most of their potential after the slow ripening of recent months. Once harvested, the grapes are quickly transported to the winery where a second selection takes place. This ensures that only the best grapes are pressed. Over the years, Arzuaga has not only preserved its winemaking traditions, but has also embraced cutting-edge technology to ensure the accuracy of temperature control and other key aspects of this ancient craft.
It’s important to remember that sustainability is a key issue for Arzuaga, which is why we have adopted environmentally friendly practices such as the use of organic treatments and respect for the biodiversity of our surroundings. In this way, we contribute to a more sustainable agriculture.
The harvest culminates in the creation of our flagship wines, which stand out for their elegance and structure. Each bottle reflects not only the exceptional quality of the grapes, but also the commitment and meticulous work of a team dedicated to excellence. At Arzuaga, the harvest is more than just a season; it’s the start of a long and complex process that sees our wines evolve until they reach your home.
