Today we want to share some great news for Arzuaga with you on our blog. It’s always an honour for us to receive compliments and good reviews for our wines, which is why today, we’re bringing you the great scores that the latest edition of Wine Enthusiast has given to Arzuaga.
Bodegas Arzuaga’s wines have stood out for the high scores they received in this American publication that focuses on the wine industry. And we also wanted to point out that the evaluations in this magazine have highlighted the two Chardonnay wines we make at our winery. While Arzuaga’s red wines are very well known for their quality, for years we’ve also been committed to making white wines that meet these same quality and pioneering standards, and we’re thrilled to see how well they’re received by both consumers as well as opinion leaders, guides and publications of reference in the industry.
So, going back to the wines we wanted to tell you about, our red Arzuaga Reserva Especial 2016 scored 93 points. Then there are the two whites we mentioned: first up is our Fan D. Oro 2020, which scored 91 points. This is a white wine made in Quintanilla de Onésimo and very closely linked to the Arzuaga family. So much so that its name itself alludes to the family, as ‘Fan’ stands for ‘Familia Arzuaga Navarro’, while ‘D. Oro’ refers to the wine’s golden colour. The vineyards that are the source of this wine are located on the La Planta estate and are over 20 years old and grown in a traditional way. The result is a fresh wine with excellent acidity and fleshiness. It’s a floral and fruity Chardonnay that reflects the personality of the land where it grows.
Pago Mota 2020, the other white wine we make at Arzuaga, was given a score of 89 points in Wine Enthusiast, on the other hand. It’s a single variety Chardonnay made from grapes grown in Arzuaga’s vineyards in Malagón, Ciudad Real. It’s an original, fresh and fruity white wine. As Ignacio Arzuaga put it, ‘This wine can be a surprise. We wanted to make a dynamic wine, for everyday drinking, since it is reasonably priced as well’. Pago Mota is ‘a free-and-easy wine, easier to drink and fresh’ that he defines in three words: ‘versatile, cheerful and fun’.
