Arzuaga friends, welcome to a new chapter of tastings with Nacho Arzuaga, our winery’s CEO. Join him on a sensory journey through our wines to get closer to our way of understanding the Ribera del Duero. Today, we’re diving into our Arzuaga Reserva 2021.
‘2021 was a great, fresh vintage, so we are going to find elegant wines. For me, the Reserva is the style of wine that made Ribera del Duero famous,’ says Nacho Arzuaga.
The CEO has opened a wonderful bottle of Arzuaga Reserva 2021, a blend of Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot grapes. The majority of these varieties come from the oldest vines on our La Planta estate. This Reserva is born from traditional and sustainable farming on the estate’s clay-limestone soils, with a bedrock less than a meter deep, and its 900-meter altitude gives a unique character to our vineyards. Let’s hear from Nacho Arzuaga again. ‘This is a powerful, profound wine where you’ll find ripe fruit with mineral notes. It has good complexity and aromatic intensity, and on the palate, it’s a flavourful, fleshy wine with very good length and persistence,’ he explains. Then, the Arzuaga’s CEO shares his favourite pairings with this wine. ‘For me, it’s ideal with big meat cuts, like T-bone steaks.’
The Arzuaga Reserva 2021 is certainly a classic one within our Designation of Origin. ‘It’s an indisputable Arzuaga wine that I believe perfectly represents the style of Ribera del Duero,’ Nacho Arzuaga concludes.
We care for every detail for a reason. From the individual monitoring of each plot to finding the optimal point of ripeness. And we also hand-harvest in small crates of no more than 15 kilos. After passing through the selection tables, the grapes undergo a low-temperature pre-fermentation maceration in tanks, followed by alcoholic fermentation at 25°C. This leads to malolactic fermentation and ageing in new French oak barrels for 28 months. A unique wine, made just for you.
