Today on our blog, we’d like to share with you one of the recognitions for our wines that has got us most excited this year. The 2022 edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has awarded a gold medal to our Laderas del Norte 2020.
It’s a recognition that we’re particularly excited about since we started out with our commitment to the cutting edge a few years ago with this organic-certified red wine that we make only using Tempranillo grapes (2020 is the fifth vintage of this wine that we’ve released on the market). The grapes we use come exclusively from the Valdesardón estate, the most westerly vineyard in all of Ribera del Duero. We planted this vineyard in the year 2000 in limestone soil, where gypsum crystals can even be found.
If you haven’t tried it yet, we can tell you that Laderas del Norte is a modern wine that is ‘light on the palate, with lots of fruit, mineral, where the terroir is coming more into the focus and the oak moves into the background,’ as Ignacio Arzuaga explained.
Besides this commitment to the cutting edge, it’s also worth mentioning that Laderas del Norte is a particularly food-friendly wine. In this sense, it can be paired with the majority of dishes in modern cuisine: Italian, French, Spanish, Peruvian, Chinese, Japanese, Mexican… This is because, on the palate, this wine has smooth, silky tannins, designed for the wide array of pairings wines offer today.
Ultimately, Laderas del Norte is one of the latest ventures from Bodegas Arzuaga, a red wine in which we wanted to bring together the quality that traditionally goes along with our wines with the cutting edge and modernity, which is the direction we want to head in with some of our products. That’s why we’re particularly excited that this wine keeps winning recognitions, especially from competitions as important as the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles.

This competition has undoubtedly become one of the world’s benchmark wine events. Its independence, rigour and the tasting process established ensure that its results and the medals awarded are independent and objective. A real source of pride for us!
